Political and economic interests of China on the African continent

Abstract. The purpose of the research article is to represent and analyze the China’s political and economic interests on the African continent and the China’s strategy towards Africa in 21st century as well as to analyze the strategies and priorities of other influential world powers in Africa. There have been used such scientific methods as an analysis, a synthesis, a content analysis etc. in the research article.

By researching bilateral and multilateral cooperation between China and the African states, the author thoroughly analyzed the Chinese government policy paper «China’s African Policy»; identified the political and economic interests of the official Beijing in Africa; revealed the China’s foreign policy tools, in particular, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation; focused on the aspects of cooperation between China and the African Union, the Sino-African cooperation in the youth sphere, rivalry in Africa between China and the United States of America, and other influential countries of the world etc.

The main results and conclusions of the research article are: 1) the comprehensive development of China’s relations with the countries of the African continent is one of the priorities of the foreign policy and foreign economic strategy of the Chinese President Xi Jinping; 2) the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and other bilateral and multilateral forums and organizations are the implementation tools of the foreign policy and economic interests of China on the African continent; 3) such influential world powers as the United States of America, Great Britain, France, India and other nations as well as the European Union will continue to compete with China to gain more influence in Africa.
