Models of financial intermediation and their classification in Ukraine

Abstract. The authors consider the main approaches to classification of financial intermediaries in Ukraine. The study explains most important differences between market-based and bank-based models of financial intermediation and offers a description of financial intermediaries in Ukrainian conditions with the place of the financial intermediaries identified in the financial system of Ukraine.

The results of the research allow drawing some conclusions. According to the financial system models under consideration, the financial intermediaries are comprised in two groups: the banks and non-bank financial intermediaries that involve the direct and indirect financial intermediaries on the financial market of Ukraine.

The classification of financial intermediaries needs additional research under expanding sector of financial services, amendment of the legislation or a threat of economic crisis.
